This tool cuts a model along a jagged line multiple times to create pieces you can then use with the RBD Fractured Object or RBD Glue Object.

The RBD Fractured Object and RBD Glue Object tools set up the dynamic relationships between objects. The shatter tool creates the pieces automatically so you don’t have to manually break up the geometry.

The Break tool creates a single jagged cut with manual control, whereas this tool creates several automatic cuts.

Using Shatter

  1. Select the object you want to shatter.

  2. Click the Shatter tool on the Model tab.

  3. Set the Number of Cuts in the parameter editor.

Tips

This tool puts each piece into its own group, which is necessary for the RBD Fractured Object and RBD Glue Object tools. The Output Prefix parameter controls the group names the tool creates. If you have more than one shatter in a network, change this parameter to avoid conflicts.

Turn off the Create Inside Surfaces checkbox to create hollow pieces.

Change the Seed parameter to change the break pattern. Once you have a pattern you like, use Roughness, Frequency, and Jitter to tweak the breaks.
