Houdini 12 Basics

Describes the memory toolbar.

To access the memory toolbar, click the view dropdown menu (beside the camera menu) in the top right corner of the viewport and turn on the Memory Toolbar checkbox.

The Memory toolbar allows you to store either the view frustum, the construction plane orientation, or a viewport image snapshot which you can recall at a later time.

Tip

For complex scenes, it can be slow to redraw the view, especially if all you want to do is switch back and forth between two or more views to compare them. Instead of bookmarking the view, you can snapshot the view as an image, and switch back and forth between the snapshots and the current view.

CPlane/Snapshot/View

Determines what type of data is stored or recalled. Cplane stores the construction plane orientation, View stores the view orientation, and Snapshot stores an image snapshot of the current viewport.

and

This toggle switches between recall and store modes.

When you are in this mode, clicking a number button or selecting an entry from the number menu will apply that data to the viewport.

When you are in this mode, clicking a number button or entering text into the text field will add a new entry to the number menu. It will store the new setting there, with either the default number or text you enter in the text field.

Restores the previous CPlane/View (before a recall button was pressed).

Note

The context completely changes when the CPlane/Snapshot/View mode is changed. Button #1 in CPlane mode is not the same as button #1 in View mode. Each mode has its own separate set of data.
