Mirror a skeleton

  1. Before you mirror, check the names of the nodes to make they have a consistent prefix (e.g. L_ for left side) and descriptive names (e.g. R_foot_control).

  2. In the viewer pane, use the tab menu to choose the Mirror tool.

  3. In the operation controls toolbar , set the New prefix and Rename up to fields to automatically rename the nodes as you mirror them.

For example, if your nodes start with L_ and you want the mirrored nodes to start with R_:

    SetTo

    Remove old prefix

    On

    Up to

    _ (underscore)

    New Prefix

    R_

  4. In the network editor, select the nodes you want to mirror. Make sure not to select the center nodes, such as character root Null or the spine bones.

  5. In the viewer pane, click RMB to finish the selection and mirror the nodes.

The Mirror tool will automatically mirror kinematics solver CHOPs for the mirrored bones. However, it’s possible to confuse the tool if you add to or reconnect the nodes inside the kinematic solver CHOPs network.

Leave the default kinematic CHOPs in place until after you mirror, then edit the CHOPs if necessary.

Tip

To mirror geometry, use the Mirror SOP .
