= Controlling the thickness, shape, and frizz = NOTE: This tutorial is a detailed look into what goes on at the network level. An automatic way to modify length and frizz is to use the [Paint Fur Length|/shelf/paintfurlength] and [Paint Frizz|/shelf/paintfrizz] tools on the shelf. #order: 60 The Fur Style shader allows you to control the thickness, shape, and frizz of the fur. To use the Fur Style shader, simply insert one into the shopnet you created in [Basic fur setup|basicsetup] and then set it as the __Guide Shader__ in your [Fur SOP|Node:sop/fur] by clicking the [Icon:BUTTONS/chooser_node] node chooser and selecting it from the tree. Applying the Fur Style shader to your fur will give it some default frizz and default randomization of length, which can be modified in the [parameter editor|/ref/panes/parms]. NOTE: You can dive inside the Fur Style shader and then further into the Fur Style VOP CVEX SHOP to manually modify the network. However, this is highly technical and should only be done by someone familiar with VEX. NOTE: In the following screen captures, the [Hair Material|/gallery/shop/material/hair] was put on the fur for better visualization. == Thickness tab == The __Thickness__ tab allows you to specify the __Root Thickness__ and __Tip Thickness__, which is useful for making fur thicker at the bottom and tapered at the top. For more information on specific parameters, see the [fur style shader help|/nodes/shop/fur_style]. NOTE: You have to render fur to see any change in thickness. [Image:/images/fur/furstyle_thickness.png] == Shape tab == The __Shape__ tab allows you to modify the length of hair. For example, __Randomize Length__ will allow you to give the fur a more natural look, since fur strands are rarely exactly the same length. [Image:/images/fur/furstyle_length.png] You can also use the controls on this tab for displacing the fur and controlling the amount of clumping. For more information on specific parameters, see the [fur style shader help|/nodes/shop/fur_style]. NOTE: In order for the __Clumping__ parameter to do anything, you need to have clump geometry. See [using clumping|clumping] for more information. == Frizz tab == The __Frizz__ tab allows you to alter the kinkiness of the fur. Increasing the __Amplitude__ and __Roughness__ are good ways to add frizz to the fur. There are also many parameters for styling the frizz. For more information on specific parameters, see the [fur style shader help|/nodes/shop/fur_style]. [Image:/images/fur/furstyle_frizz.png] All of these attributes (thickness, shape, and frizz) can also be painted on the fur. The fur style shader is a good way to control the look of the fur as a whole; however, you may want to [paint|Node:sop/paint] certain areas of the fur with specific attributes.
