First Breath is a project which was conceived of and animated at Side Effects in preparation for demo presentations at SIGGRAPH 2007. The project makes use of particles, rigid body dynamics, fluid dynamics, procedural wings, and Houdini's compositing tools. Of particular note, the character was rigged and animated in less than two weeks by an intern, using skills he easily transferred from another package.
