Introduction to Fluid Dynamics in Houdini
Published: July 16, 2008 for Houdini 9.5

Created by Houdini Product Specialist Stephen Tucker, this crash course series focuses on the concept of fluid dynamics and how they work within Houdini. This 2 hour 48 minute long collection of 15 Fluid Dynamics Tutorial Videos can be downloaded using either individual quicktime files or a single Bit Torrent.

Scene Files

The .zip scene files provide you with the setup of the networks but will require you to run the simulations before you can preview the results. The Bit Torrent version contains some .bgeo / .sim files which let you preview the results right away.

Quicktime Movies

These videos on Voxel Fluids should help any artist get up in running with the foundation tools available for creating fluid effects in Houdini 9.5. Topics range from how to create a container to how to gain access to fluid attributes for shading, and even passing data from volumes to particles.

The following videos on Particle Fluids continue working with fluid dynamics in Houdini 9.5 and assume that the viewer is relatively familiar with how dynamic simulations work, or have been following along through the series. The basics are still covered including creating water from an object but also include more conceptual simulations such as filling a glass with water and mixing different colors in your liquids.
