Module 01 | Introduction to CHOPs
In this introductory week we will start to learn how to set up CHOP networks to import geometry data, and visualize/organize the motion view. We will then explore the key parts of channel operations including generators, triggers, and analyze CHOPs.
Module 02 | CHOP Projects
This week we continue learning CHOPs by doing a couple of projects. Specifically we will learn how to create the “Pin Table” effect in the original X-Men Movie. We will then move on and learn about the Table CHOP to import tabular data and create a small project that uses the data to create a star field.
Module 03 | Intro to Dynamics
This week covers the basics of Dynamics. We will cover simple “art directed” motion based on dynamics. We will be looking at the Details view to understand the theory behind dynamics and in future weeks look at practical examples.
Module 04 | Wire Solvers
Wire solvers are the focus this week. Wire solvers are great to control deformable structures such as trees falling with deformation. We will learn the solver by doing a couple of projects including the classic “jellyfish tentacles” effect.

Module 05 | Cloth
Cloth as cloth, Cloth as metal, Cloth as abstract geometry. The cloth tools in Houdini are quite versatile and this week we will explore the parameters of cloth and how to set them up to simulate a diverse range of materials.

Module 06 | Fluids
Fluids are used as a visual element in film, commercials and video games. This week we will look at FLIP fluids and the Ocean Toolkit to setup scenes where fluids of different viscosities collide with objects, simulate different colored paints splashing, and mixing with other colored fluids. We will finish off the week by using fluids to simulate solid objects that are melting.

Module 07 | Particles 01
Week 7 is an introduction to using particles. We will look at the setup, main nodes to control simulation, and integration of particles into Dynamics. The class will end by using particles to create network diagram effects.
