Houdini Master now available for as low as $7,995 USD.
Houdini Escape now includes free support for third party rendering.

Toronto: March 1, 2007 - Side Effects Software, today unveiled affordable new pricing for Houdini Master, the award-winning 3D animation and visual effects software renowned for its node-based procedural workflow. Houdini Master is now available for $7,995 USD for a node-locked Workstation license and $9,995 USD for a floating Network license.

“The new lower cost of Houdini Master will give boutique studios access to our high-end effects tools,” says Judith Crow, Senior Production Consultant, Side Effects Software Inc. “This is fantastic for broadcast and video game customers who want to create film-quality work and for feature film studios who want to equip larger teams of Houdini artists.”

Houdini Escape, which includes modeling, animation, motion editing (CHOPS), character rigging, muscles, lighting, rendering and compositing continues to be priced at $1,995 USD for a node-locked Workstation license and $2,995 USD for a floating Network license.

“Including Houdini Escape in our pipeline has been a great way to cut down costs.” says Mike O'Neal, Digital Effects Supervisor at Rhythm & Hues. “Small teams can use Houdini Master to set up lighting and effects pipelines then we can scale up using the more affordable Houdini Escape licenses.”

Houdini Escape works particularly well with Houdini’s Digital Asset Technology. Studios can use Houdini Master to set up particle and dynamic effects then encapsulate them into a Digital Asset with artist-friendly controls. These Digital Assets can then be loaded into Houdini Escape and used by artists to layout, animate and render shots. The ability to render to third party renderers, such as RenderMan or Mental Ray, is now available for free in both Houdini Master and Houdini Escape. Previously this feature was only available to Houdini Escape customers as an add-on. Houdini’s RenderMan support is particularly strong and includes an interactive Shader Builder and support for interactive rendering.

Many studios are starting to benefit from the rich feature set of Houdini’s built-in renderer called Mantra. Mantra is production proven and includes a state-of-the-art hybrid scan-line / ray-trace renderer, global illumination, and point cloud textures. Houdini Master and Houdini Escape come with unlimited Mantra render tokens making it a very affordable solution for building up your lighting pipeline.

Houdini’s general pipeline products previously called Houdini Non-graphical and Rscript have now been consolidated into a single product called Houdini Batch. This command-line version of Houdini Master is licensed per workstation and is the perfect tool for batch processing shots and feeding the render farm. Houdini Batch is available for $1,495 with volume pricing available that can bring the price down as far as $1,195 per license.

On March 1st, Side Effects Software will be releasing Houdini 8.2 specifically to handle the licensing of the new product line. Side Effects Software will be contacting existing customers to explain options for migrating to the new product line and to discuss new pricing for the Annual Upgrade Plan. Customers can then determine when they are ready to incorporate the new product line into their pipeline.
