Houdini's online documentation is improving as the public beta progresses and it is a useful learning resource. This lesson shows you different ways of accessing help either from the toolshelf or from the parameter pane of each node. This lesson also shows you how to find and load example files that can be used to learn a wide variety of techniques.

Each example file creates a network of nodes that you can dive into using Houdini 9's new double click UI. You can then middle mouse click over the nodes in the networks to see how each contributes to the result. You can also tinker with the parameter settings to find out how the network functions.

Many of the best Houdini users built up their knowledge using this exploratory method. By dissecting the example files you will not only learn how to use Houdini but also how to read a Houdini network which is an important technical director skill.

nice one Robert...

it might be a good idea to tell new users that any node that has it's name in blue has a comment, this might not have been clear in this vid.

Thanks for bringing these useful examples to light! Great job, Rob!

You might also mention that you have the option to launch the examples in a separate Houdini session.

Would it be possible to create examples that demonstrate python expressions, similar to the "expression cookbook" but in .cmd's.
