Geometry was deleted but still appears in viewer

I have inserted an obj via the file SOP inside of my GEO node. I was working on some blendshapes and wanted to delete one them.

I could not - it was still overlayed and appeared in the GEO node.

I then proceeded to uncheck the display for that node…. still there.

I then proceeded to delete EVERYTHING inside my GEO node.

The geometry is still there in the viewer…

I then deleted EVERY SINGLE NODE in my network so it's basically a blank Houdini file…

Still there.

What exactly am I doing wrong?

Thank you

PS: I cannot select it (or points or polygons within) but I can tumble around it just fine. It also responds to “Display points” or normals etc…

Does saving the empty .hip file and restarting houdini fix it? If not, then try right-clicking in the network view pane and choose Viewing Controls > Expose All.

for me usually closing Scene Viewer Tab and opening new one does the trick, but it's annoying
sometimes clearing the cache through Cache Manager works as well

A default answer, but anyway - have you tried to download a more recent build?
I used to have the same issue every now and then, earlier, but haven't seen it in a while now. Maybe a newer build, maybe a newer gpu driver, maybe I'm doing different things, maybe it's luck

Hello everybody - Thank you all so much for trying to help.

Well, I did save a blank file as you instructed Edward… and that got rid of my face… along with all my work

The “Expose All” just shows me the IPR camera - is this where the problem is happening? If so… can I delete it and then place another ipr camera? Will try this next time along with Tamte's advice.

Tamte - read your message too late but good to know about the manager being able to do that (when you change it)

Eetu - It was the latest build.

Thank you again.

Which Houdini build exactly?

Stuck geo in the viewport hasn't been seen in a long time, what steps were you doing when this happened.

It's always good computer practice to save a version of your file when problem solving, never a good idea to save over your original file!

Thanks!

Hello MartybNz

It's 476 (13)…

The problems seems to be related (or somehow triggered) to introducing Edit nodes that feed into a Blendshape. It keeps happening. It superimposes geometry that should NOT be showing.

Thanks to Tamte I clear the cache and it works… but it is frustrating. I'm guessing he's had experience with this issue too.

Check out my attachment of overlapping geometry in the viewport.

Can you please upload the .hip file with the geo too. Even a just small bit of it - Sesi are very good at fixing the bug if they can reproduce it.

Thanks!

And you have to restart Houdini , Right ?
It's just a bug , I have same problem with latest Houdini build , I think Houdini is not compatible with some VGA drivers , Try to update your VGA drivers , maybe it can help you

I just do the clear cache thing…. but it keeps happening quite a lot. As I can see I'm far from being the only one.

I've updated all my drivers - nothing.

It also happened when I layed down a curve then deleted it. It still showed it. I cleared the cache and that deleted it from the scene view… BUT it also deleted the main Geo from the view.

Had to close the scene view and reopen another one. I'm guessing it's a bug but it's a very annoying one.

The great thing is, many of these bugs can be fixed by simply supplying the file and the steps to recreate the issue.

Very easy to do, if you would like the bug to be fixed.

Understood - Will do but I cannot upload geometry so I have to rig new one (that I can share) and duplicate the issues (if I can). Will try to do as soon as my time permits.

Also, as an important side-note:

As far as I can tell the issue happens randomly when using certain sops in a certain order. This presents some problems as closing and reopening the file fixes the display issue… When someone opens the file I've saved, it would probably work for them at that point.

Point being that someone has to pretty much construct the issue on their computer for it to happen. Closing and opening fixes things.

As such, I don't know if I can present a step by step way of duplicating the problem… just ballpark it.

I'm not the only one affected by this so if anyone more experienced in debugging in Houdini wants take a crack at this they're welcome to it. In the meantime I'll try to do what I said above.

Thank you.
