Can I align the handles of a selected polygon to the normal? i only see Object, World and View options. The “start orientation picking” Is not the solution because i need to align from the center of the selected polygon, not from adyacents edges.

I cant find the way to do this!

Thanks you in advance, and sorry my english.

You probably want “Snap to orientation” in the snapping options.

sadly the only way to do this is as suggested with orient picking. Pick 3 points in the poly and the handle will align with the normal.
Wouldn't it be great if you could just work in a mode where this happen auto magically.

Well, it is not exactly aligning the transform handle but if you want to move components along the normal while being in Edit-SOP then choose “Toggle Peak Handle” from the right-click menu in the viewport.

What if you want to rotate about the individual poly normal? What if you want to scale edges by just changing their length?

I just started a model in Wings3D and it just reminded me how much many ‘complete’ 3d packages still lag behind it in terms of modeling. Not a stab at Houdini, all of the packages are not there yet. Check out this for example:

Thanks a lot but…

Both methods doesnt align the handle to the CENTER of the polygon (NORMAL), i put this as a feature request.

Actually there is a way to align the handle though not fast in any way so perhaps this could be automated through some python scripting. Here goes…

1. Set Construction Plane , Orientation Picking. Pick two edges from the polygon you want the CPlane aligned to.
2. Select the polygon that you want to Edit.
3. Hit the ( ‘ ) key to go into pivot mode.
4. Right-Click on the handle then choose Align Handle > CPlane Axes. The pivot should now be oriented in the CPlane Normal and in the middle of the currently selected polygon.
5. Hit the ( ‘ ) key again to go back into normal translate handle. Voila!

Didn’t toggle handle-geometry detachment used to be in the right click menu?
