Hi! Im working on a fireplace scene where flames raise from a group of logs. Im using PyroFX as the solver and also the Pyro shader included in Houdini.

At the moment im having trouble getting the right shape for the flame, i want it more "swirly" but i always get a pretty straight flame.

I`ve done many pre tests, and here is part of the WIP

Tests:

Coo! I like the evolution but I prefer the color scheme on the initial tests. Somehow the reds look over saturated to me.

Cheers

Hi,

Yes, I think the scale is a bit off too.. Smile
The other thing is those flying particles, I think they are too slow, maybe you should try advecting them with the fire. I'm not exactly sure of how that works in pyro, but shouldn't be that complicated. Also they should start bright and fade out as they burn, what you think?

Cheers

Yeah, thats right, tonight ill let the sim and render to finish with some new tweaks to fix the scale thing.

Those particles are really raw. I added for the tests but i didnt work on them already. Yes, the idea is once i have the final fluid, ill advect them, and some of the will "explode" just like the wood hot particles do.

So, looking forward to what ill see in the morning =)

Here´s a preview of the shaders.

The light is based on the fluid =) (but in this one not rendered)

Curious to see your result.

Maybe can you decrease the intensity of the actual light and maybe strat to make a night mood to your base lightset ...

I really like the final result.
May i suggest some fire-glowy cavities on the wood just to give it a sense that its really on fire, I think it will increase the level of realism even more. Either way, top notch work.

Thanks Gerlandox, I appreciate your observation and like the idea, for this one i´ll leave it this way but for my next projects i´ll study more in depth the shading.

Other thing that may work is some areas of the wood with white ashes on the outside.
