EDIT (Solution):
I downgraded my NVIDIA Drivers to 295, now it works like a charm!

Hello guys,
So is there official support for Windows 8 yet?
It starts just fine and I can work with it for like 5 minutes but then it freezes when I am for example pressing tab in the network view and start entering letters. No way of getting it back to work, have to kill the process…
Anyone knows this issue? I am eager to learn Houdini and I installed it on Win7 some months ago with no problems. I also tried running it in compatibility mode with no success.

Could you post your system specs? It's hard to help without knowing what's inside your machine.

Houdini has been tested to run in Windows 8 on both Nvidia and AMD cards.

Hello and thank you for your reply.
The strange thing is, that not the program itself seems to crash but rather the display of the work area. Here's a screenshot of what it looks like after I un-maximize the window and re-maximize it.
Houdini does not seem to be hanged up but rather the display of it is crashed. Despite I can't close the program via the X button it isn't marked as not responding in the task manager.

EDIT: I also tried switching to older versions of OpenGL but still the same Issue. Also upgraded Graphics driver from regular one to latest beta.

There appears to be a problem with Win8 and the Nvidia 310 series drivers when used with Houdini. Try installing the 304 or 306 driver instead; that should solve the hang. This does not affect Win7 or Linux - Nvidia 310 works fine there. We have filed a report with Nvidia about this.

Any news? I can't run both Houdini and Farcry3 (it needs the beta drivers)… so no Houdini for now

Nvidia has fixed the problem in the Quadro 311.15 driver that is currently available from their website.

However, the fix for the GEForce driver will not be available until the 319 series is released, which appears to be in the spring timeframe according to Nvidia. Until then, GEForce users will need to use the 306.97 driver (or earlier driver). I will post a new message when we verify that the GEForce driver is fixed.

Again, you only need this driver fix if you are running Windows 8.

I just tried out the latest driver to see if things are improving: GeForce 314.07 Driver

But nope.. now it even freezes at the splash screen!

Isn't there anything we can do about this as a community?
It keeps getting worse with every release, so maybe we should spam nvidia..
