Houdini caused Wacom tablet pointer delay

Hi,

I remember having this issue before a long while back during the alpha/beta stage of H9 on XP. Unfortunately, it seems to be back again. I am on Vista64 this time around.

My Wacom Intous2 driver installed is the latest stable release. H9.0.748. Vista is all updated.

I noticed that with every subsequence launching, H9 will cause the mouse pointer to have a delayed response when using Wacom tablet. When I get the pen near the tablet, there's about 1/25-1/2 sec. delay after about 4th or 5th time launching Houdini. Closing Houdini doesn't not fix this. Only reboot does. I don't recall H8 to ever cause this. Same problem as it was several months ago.

Thanks.

Hi,

Can anyone here please verify that this is only me who's having this issue?

I just tested it on build 755. After opening/closing Houdini for about 20 times, my mouse pointer would takes about 1.25 seconds to response whenever I hover the pen on the tablet itself.

My intous2 driver is 6.04-4 for Vista64. I set HOUDINI_ENABLE_LINUX_TABLET to 0, and that doesn't seems to be doing anything for me so far.

Don't know what else to do. Having to rebooting OS after every 5-10 uses of Houdini sucked unless I decide to switch back to the old school mouse.

Much thanks.

Heya Alex,

I've been experiencing the same symptoms. Gradually, over the course of a day the lag between putting pen-to-tablet and the cursor moving gets longer and longer.

It's annoying.

I did find a reboot free short term remedy, open up the services panel, and stop-start that Tablet service.

Hope this helps,

Hi Gene,

Thanks so much for checking it for me to confirm that I hadn't gone nut. I completely forgot about the tablet service. Will try that next time to see if that will remedy the issue. Anything not having to reboot would be more preferable, I think. (Not having this issue would be best)

Thanks again!

Restarting TabletService worked. Thanks.

The other REALLY interesting thing I am finding out is that (in my case at least) I don't even have to constantly closing/relaunching Houdini to get this mouse pointer delay. ** I just keep Houdini open, play with it, come back like half hour later, the mouse response time was literally about 2-3 seconds until I restart TabletService again. **

Although I wondered what will happen if I leave Houdini running over night.

EDIT:
** Erm.. I'll have to 2x and 3x check that statement as I can't seem replicate it now.

A generall observation I had with wacoms and winOS:
Never use the latest driver.

I encountered a variety od unexpected behaviours with wacoms which all got resolved by using an older driver version.

maybe this helps here as well.
