Houdini Indie includes the same features as the commercial version of Houdini FX and can be used in all stages of game production such as creating prototypes, level building, procedural modeling and environment detailing. Houdini Indie includes FBX import and export with no polygon limits and can package up node networks into Houdini Digital Assets that retain their procedural nature.

Pricing And Availability

Houdini Indie is available today from the Unity Asset Store for $199 USD yearly while Houdini Engine Indie is available for $99 USD yearly. ProTrack is available for $99 on its own or bundled with one year of Houdini Engine Indie for $159. The Houdini Engine for Unity plug-in is currently available for developers working with Unity 4.5 on 32-bit Windows. Support for 64-bit Windows and OSX is only available for Unity 5 beta testers.

Commercial use of Houdini Indie and Houdini Engine Indie is limited to studios or artists that make less than $100K USD per year. Houdini Indie cannot be used in the same pipeline as commercial versions of Houdini and you can only have three Houdini Indie’s and three Houdini Engine Indie’s per studio. Houdini Indie uses its own file format for saving scenes and assets and is restricted to 1920x1080 when rendering out animations using Houdini’s physically-based renderer Mantra.

ProTrack Tools

Houdini Indie also includes access to the Houdini Engine which can be used to load these Houdini Digital Assets directly into the Unity® editor where game makers can use high-level parameters to achieve custom results. For artists that don’t need to author their own assets, a standalone Houdini Engine Indie license can be used to load assets created in Houdini Indie or existing assets such as ProTrack.

ProTrack is the first procedural ready-to-roll track and terrain system created using the Houdini Digital Asset technology. ProTrack uses the Houdini Engine to empower game makers to rapidly create and edit live track environments inside Unity that can be immediately played with any controller.
