Houdini 4.9.463 VMantra will now perform derivative smoothing. This should result in better anti-aliasing of textures and more noticably, fewer seam problems in displacement mapping. The smooth derivatives should also allow some non-photorealistic shaders produce better results. In some cases, this may not be the desired behaviour. All functions which use derivatives (Du, Dv, area, computenormal, filterstep, texture, environment, etc.) now take an optional argument to control smoothing (which is on by default), for example:

Houdini 4.9.458 RotoSpline creation and interaction is significantly better. Creating a rotospline can be done by a combination of drawing freehand curves and plotting points. Middle mouse adjusts the fit tolerance, and then right clicking completes the spline. Editting the spline is then done with the traditional spline handles (which have been improved as well). Fri.
