Houdini Main Changelogs

Houdini 4.9.470 All the brush states (Comb, Paint, Sculpt, CapturePaint) now allow you to bind one operation to the left mouse button and another to the middle mouse button. Use either the CTRL+RMB menu or the state dialog (hotkey 'p') to access this functionality. For example, in the Sculpt state you can deform with the LMB and erase with the MMB. Wed. September 12, 2001
Houdini 4.9.470 Added a new visibility sop. This sop hides or exposes (unhides) primitives in the 3D and 2D (ie. UV) viewports. These sops can be created automatically when selecting input geometry. In the selection toolbox (the one with the group menu) there is now a menu to hide or expose primitives. There is also a viewer menu entry to remove all visibility sops in the current network. Wed. September 12, 2001
Houdini 4.9.470 There was a bug in vmantra (4.9 only) which caused bad convexing of concave polygons in the XZ plane. Wed. September 12, 2001
Houdini 4.9.469 The brush sops now allow you to specify rotational and reflective symmetries. Look for the "Symmetry" folder in each brush sop. Tue. September 11, 2001
Houdini 4.9.469 viewtype command now does a home after changing the viewport type in order to get the correct view projection. Tue. September 11, 2001
Houdini 4.9.468 A very low level routine in vmantra was changed. Please be on the lookout for polygonal sampling artifacts. This change results in a slightly faster render and should be more robust and correct. When ray-tracing, slightly more memory may be used. Mon. September 10, 2001
Houdini 4.9.468 The "mantra3" application was previously called "mantra" and had a symbolic link to "mantra". Now, "mantra" is a symbolic link to vmantra. In other words, typing "mantra" will now cause vmantra to render instead of mantra3. Mon. September 10, 2001
Houdini 4.9.468 Fixing some problems with hcustom on linux. It no longer hardcodes compiler include paths and it turns off the -nostdinc option. Mon. September 10, 2001
Houdini 4.9.468 Fixing another bug where reselecting in the edit state with secure selection off will crash houdini. Mon. September 10, 2001
Houdini 4.9.468 The homing will now only be tilted if the construction plane is on. Mon. September 10, 2001
Houdini 4.9.468 A handle being oriented will now have its z-axis drawn at one and a half times the length of the other axes so that it is easy to see. (It is also drawn in solid rather than dotted line). Mon. September 10, 2001
Houdini 4.9.467 The Blur COP now has an option to do accurate blur masking, which modifies the blur kernel size per pixel based on the mask weight. This produces more realistic results at the expense of more computation. Sun. September 9, 2001
Houdini 4.9.465 Added the Field COP, which handles Field Merge, Field Split, Even and Odd operations. Fri. September 7, 2001
Houdini 4.9.465 Fixed aligning to world-axes from the Vector handle's menu. It was always aligning to the local-axes. Fri. September 7, 2001
Houdini 4.9.465 Added click-orient options to dirpivot, vector, ikpivot and project handles. Fri. September 7, 2001
Houdini 4.9.465 Hotkeys for selection rule (Add, Toggle, Remove, Replace). Fri. September 7, 2001
Houdini 4.9.463 The Smooth SOP no longer treats unique points that have the same location as connected. To get this behaviour back the user has to consolidate the points before smoothing. Also, this only applies to polygons. Wed. September 5, 2001
Houdini 4.9.463 When click-orienting a handle, its normal (zaxis) is now drawn in solid line instead of dotted line like the rest of it. Wed. September 5, 2001
Houdini 4.9.463 Fixing bug where pressing reselect in an edit state more than twice would not work. Wed. September 5, 2001
Houdini 4.9.463 The Paint, CapturePaint, and Comb SOPs all now have a smooth mode where they smooth out their respective attributes. Wed. September 5, 2001
Houdini 4.9.463 Added selections and handle to the PolyWire SOP, making it fully interactive like all other sops. Wed. September 5, 2001
Houdini 4.9.463 Fixed a bug in vmantra when rendering large objects (which had hit the PSOUP limit) which occurred when shadow maps were rendered in the same IFD as motion blurred geometry. Wed. September 5, 2001
Houdini 4.9.463 VMantra will now perform derivative smoothing. This should result in better anti-aliasing of textures and more noticably, fewer seam problems in displacement mapping. The smooth derivatives should also allow some non-photorealistic shaders produce better results. In some cases, this may not be the desired behaviour. All functions which use derivatives (Du, Dv, area, computenormal, filterstep, texture, environment, etc.) now take an optional argument to control smoothing (which is on by default), for example:

        Cf = scale*area(P, "smooth", 0);
Tue. September 4, 2001
Houdini 4.9.462 The handles will now have their pivots moved when click-orienting. For example if the user simply clicks on one point and then right-clicks, the handle will move there. Tue. September 4, 2001
Houdini 4.9.461 Fixed bug where the construction plane would not go back to the default position when clicking on "Revert To Defaults" from the menu. Mon. September 3, 2001
