How to make hair braid with this model?

Hi, I would like to know is there anyone can help me out of this.

I am trying to do a braid for this hair model, and after a trying and trying and trying, I really don't know how should I do this, that's why i come for help.

I want to make this hair polygon as PNG show below go into braid like the JPG show below.

:cry: do anyone can provide me a concept and how to make it in SOP, what kind of node need and some step?
