I watched a tutorial that I'm pretty sure was a SideFX tut that showed how to pass painted values to the scale/rotate values of a copy stamp, but I can't find it. I've downloaded a bunch from vimeo to no avail. Someone posted something similar here but but it's not quite right since the rotation is kind of arbitrary in the end. I need it to be only in the Y for l-system trees like in the tutorial:
