I found this different :
If you use first method , you can't make slow your animation with TimeWrap SOP ,you take very hard and harsh result , So you should use Time Blend SOP before Time Wrap SOP.
But if you use second method , you can directly connect Time Wrap SOP to Convert SOP for making Slow motion very smoothly !

The first method give you a problem using timewarp sop without timeblend because geometry have a single primitive only. but when you use convert sop primitive count becomes as it exported from source geometry.
@Jack.N, If you use default load as option, you will not be able to use Volume based collision in Dops.
After using convert geometry becomes heavy because it's loading all primitives. So I suggest you to use pack sop to make it single primitive again.
@Joker386, you could use timewarp directly if you use pack sop before timewarp sop.

No , that's not a feature for Pack SOP , That's because using “Alembic Delayed Load Primitives” option :!:
You can see if you use “Load Houdini Geometry” option in the Alembic File , then append Pack SOP after it , You need again to use “Time Blend” SOP for doing slow motion with “Time Wrap SOP” !
The Pack SOP only pack input data 8)

I mean to say Load As Alembic Delayed Load Primitive rather then Load Houdini Geometry. And then append convert then pack it to use timewarp directly (no need to use timeblend) and save memory.
