bump maps messed up

hi.. my Vops shader bump mapping isnt working, its messing up the normals or something.. my map is 4096x4096 for my creature, when applied it seems to be splitting vertex/edge normals?!.. ive inclkuded links to the messed up image, and to a grab of my vexbuilder tree..

There are some shadowing artifacts that look like they come from self shadowing. This can be fixed by turning up the shadow bias in the vex shadow shader that you are using. Not sure if this is what you are refering to.
The trick is finding just the right hammer for every screw

that might be it.. but why do they only appear when i add the bump map?

just behind the eye socket, inside the eye socket and on a number of other areas poly edges are quite visible when the bump map is on, without the bump on it is rendered with no artifacts.
