I wonder if this has anything to do with Solidangle's acquisition. I don't know which was first obviously.
That piece of gossip aside, this is indeed great news.

I think so. SideFx is concerned with license counts as they should be.

Definitely would love to see indy adoption increase and this was an oft requested enhancement but has nothing to do with the ADSK purchase of SA.

We have been noticing a great number of requests for 3rd party rendering support in Indy for some time. This feature release was planned quite some time before the SA purchase announcement.

It's fantastic to have Arnold as one of the supported render engines for Indy. Choice is always good in my book.
There's at least one school like the old school!

Found out today that Redshift has their Houdini integration ready for public beta. Just in time for Houdini Indie 15.5

Having Vray in Houdini will be huge for me as an Indie user. I have a lot more experience with those particular parameters as a whole vs. the Mantra ones. It'll allow me to integrate my renders with VrayforC4D that much easier - and even allow me to go A to Z on a few shots directly in Houdini if needed.

Plus, having a biased render engine will help a lot for area lights & volumes.
