hi
i'm trying to do a school of squid following a main character with particles, now, when the squids turn, how can i set it up so that legs react to the change in direction, the legs don't need to be doing a swimming motion, i just need some turbulance on them. the main concern is that they don't just follow the head of the squid in a rigid fashion?

hopefully that makes sense?

thx

Check out the Wire Object/solver stuff in DOPs, if you glue the wires to the “head” of the squid, then wherever you move the head, the legs will follow along in a natural way. Apply a Noise field to the legs so they move about on their own too.

From what I gather you should download the very latest version to reap the benefits of some improvements in DOPs that could apply to this.

I'd install the latest daily one for good luck.

Hey,

This cute demo over at odforce might help. Hmmm. And it's less than 42 Nodes I expect. :-)

It's an interactive flocking demo - there's a hip file you can download. You'll see the arrows chase the green thing which you can steer with your mouse; interactively. See the instructions for more into at:

cheers,
ben.

PS. You can probably achieve the delayed leg motion you're looking for with a Timing Chop (eg. delay, shift, lag…)

In the help for the SOP Solver DOP, try looking at the Denting with POPs example.
