This is a discussion starting over in:

http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_forum&Itemid=172&page=viewtopic&t=5125 [sidefx.com]

Waiting for SESI to weigh in on this. AFAIK FC4 isn't on the list of officially supported distros - according to the download page, anyway. It might be as simple as dealing with permission issues, though.

Cheers,

FC4 is a fairly experimental distro isn't it?

Define “experimental”.

I'm not sure I'd call it that, perhaps “cutting edge”.

However, I'll admit to being a little surprised FC4 went with SE Linux out of the box. I think SE is a great idea, make a secure OS even moreso, but the last platform at risk is a linux workstation. I'd rate them as Windows workstation, Windows server, Linux server, Linux workstation last. Adding secure features like that just effects usability IMHO. I know SUSE 10 has a optional path to SE, I just have no use for it. Let the firewall do it's job, let the internal workstations talk to each other and not get paranoid over every little library.

Cheers,

J.C.

Is the license server running?
Go to /usr/lib/sesi
And type, being root:
./sesinetd
Then you have the server daemon running, try to use hkey or houdini.
The clena way is to go to /etc/init.d (i don't know if fedore stores the init scripts there), you should have a script called sesinetd, being root type:
./sesinetd start
the last is the right way to start the license server, the first is a shortcut.
Hope this help
Un saludo
Best Regards

Also check that you have the hserver process running (eg. ps -A | grep hserver)

Edit : Truncated my post after reading your response above

Maybe your hostname is too funky for houdini? I did an install of FC4 a while ago and I remember i had disable selinux and change the hostname to something realistic.
