I am trying to get a z-depth pass in Renderman but am unsure of how to do so. In Mantra, all you have to do is go to Extra Image Planes window and check the z-depth option, but in Renderman, there is no such window.
I'm guessing this has something to do with AOVs, so I've begun playing around with that. I created a new AOV and set “Variable 1” to Depth (Z), but I'm not sure what “Source” refers to or what I should put there. If I put anything there, the Zdepth image comes out either completely white or completely black– and there doesn't seem to be any readable channels other than RGB when I take it into Nuke, either.
Does anybody know how to get a z-depth pass from Renderman? I've included an attachment using an example scene, look in the Out node for my settings. Thanks!

Hi.
Your setup looks right.
The issue is that the depth pass in renderman is not between 0-1 so the image will look completely white, but all you need to do is remap the values in nuke or whatever editing software you are using. you can check your depth pass in Houdini by using the “adapt to full pixel range” in the RenderView.

Hope that helps
