Hi, I just stumbled upon a really old post here [www.sidefx.com] by Jeff Lait, where he mentions the importance of using and working within shells. I was wondering if this is still applicable nowadays?

I've been on Windows for practically all of my working life, I've been meaning to jump to Linux, but none of the studios that I worked for (at least locally in the Philippines) are using Linux.

But after reading what Jeff Lait said, I wanted to start and at least get accustomed to Cygwin.. or if that is outdated (due to that post being more that 10 years old), maybe Powershell that comes with win10 would suffice?

I'm also quite aware that majority of the bigger studios are on Linux. My intention (or goal) is to get familiar with workflows involving shells, just in case (hopefully!) in the future, I get to work on a big studio that would consider this as an added advantage.

Do most of you guys run Houdini on a Shell?
