there is a class from Udemy about learning Python. right now it is on sale for $15.

You don't really need python to get up and running in Houdini. Try watching some of the startup videos under the Learn Menu up above.

For me, I have use python about 3%-4% of the time when constructing scene work. VEX is actually more useful.
