Hello everyone

I am trying to capture or paint weights to my model in Houdini 16
I am using the new Autorig system

So basically I followed Houdini 16 Masterclass - Autorig Tools Overview on Vimeo
Sadly the author does not go into the detail of how to adjust the weights
where there are some problems

He just setups up the autorig and thats it

But what if you want to refine eeach weights of the bones in Houdini 16?

In the old Houdini tutorials, people were showing how to capture weights

But it seems the new Houdini 16 Autorig is using a different system

Please any help will be appreciated

here is a very rough capture (no audio sorry) of how to start

with my character asset unlocked
I go into the asset and turn on the Select Flag of the geo_skin - this is important
then using Shift+Z, I open the Node Groups window
I find the Head_bone_group and click the yellow flag to select them, space+g in the network to home in on them
then I turn on their Select Flag - this is important
I use the parameters of the asset to turn off the visibility of some of the ctrls etc
move the head bones a bit to see the current deformation
now I use TAB > Paint Capture Layer
select the geo_skin, RMB > Accept
this drops me into the geo_skin, with the Paint Capture Layer active
I see the weight colours on the skin
using ctrl+MMB I can select a bone to use for the painting…now I just paint.

hope that helps.
I have a second series of Rigging Tutorials in the works that will cover this material in more depth, these will be released in our Tutorials section in the near future (no date is set right now).

Oh My oh my

Yes Michael it is finally working
Thank you so much for making this very nice video which was nice and slow for a beginner like me

Last question: I noticed the weights are only going to the head bone cregion 0. This is what I see in my capture region
It is as if no other bone can replace this head bone cregion 0 even when I try to click+MMMB to select different dones

What should I do if want to jump and change the weights of other bones while keeping the current capture as well?

Like let's say I want to do weight capture of the leg bone and other bones, what should I do.
I noticed when I paint in any other area besides the head the vertices of my mesh move and point only toward the head bone so clearly the head done is having influence everywhere its like only the head bones are active

Thank you once again

any bone that you want to use must be selectable - turn the yellow flag on like I did in the video for the head bones - then it can be selected with ctrl+MMB
