Ocean simulation question (s)

Hi guys!

two things:
I'm looking to put a ship simulation on a tiled ocean. It needs to produce a wake as per usual.
My client wants a continuous ocean.

Can you render out just the displaced portion to apply as a displacement map to ocean geometry?

Why not use the infinite ocean technique? You can use either the Ocean Flat Tank or Guided Ocean Layer Shelf tool as your starting point so you only simulate the grid around the ship for the wake while blending the edges of the simulated grid with displacement map ocean.

made it work, but I'm unsure what I should be adjusting so that my ocean tiles properly but doesn't look off (on a bigger scale)
