hi!

For example on an Asus ROG laptop, you have Asus Sonic Studio installed by default, this includes the Nahimic drivers, on windows 10, if you see sonic studio's red icon on the system tray, it is enough to right click and exit, this is enough for Houdini not to crash. So if you have an audio service on the system tray, just exit it. You will still have sound.

I installed 16.5.439 and it works without issues.

I went from .405 to .473 when I got the crash on startup.

Had not previously installed .439

Don't know if that made any difference.
Hope this gets fixed in the next release!

PS: off topic. just out of curiosity. is there any kind of roadmap when 17 will be announced?

For what its worth also running 16.4.439 on Linux (Ubuntu 18.04 LTS)
Nvidia driver 390.59 and Titan V GPU.

Both latest production build of Hindie and latest Nvidia driver don't launch on my setup.

It's been my experience that in general Houdini NEVER plays nice with latest and greatest Nvidia driver.

Wish this would change…

Hi there, I just updated to 16.5.473 on Windows 10 and also had the instant crash at startup.
I had the Redshift Demo installed. Uninstalling Redshift and getting rid of the edits in the env file solved the problem.
Maybe this is of any help.
