Distributed fluid sim with Deadline or other render farm

Hey there,

Anyone know if it is possible to do distributed fluid simulations with Deadline? We are using that for farm management and probably cannot set up a separate HQueue farm just for this one special need.

I am wondering if there are any special ROPs or Mantra commands that can do this.

Any ideas, let me know.

Thanks!

Did you get any traction with this? I have a client who would like to do the same thing and I am looking for information on how to do this.

Thanks

Hi
You can use deadline to reserve Hserver machines. And then you use HQueue to do the actual simming:

Hi bonsak,

Thanks for the info. Does this method work internally with deadline or do you need an HQueue server set up? I'm a little confused about the process.

You need to have HQueue set up. The actual processing management is done by HQ.

Afanasy does distributed simulation. check out the original repository (https://github.com/CGRU/cgru) or mine (https://github.com/sergeneren/cgru) as i have placed a couple more options on otl. But be reminded mine is way behind original.

I have to correct my previous post as it seems you can use C:\Program Files\Side Effects Software\Houdini <VERSION>\houdini\python2.7libs\simtracker.py script with Deadline instead of having to set up HQueue. I will try it when i get back to the studio in august.

Sorry for the confusion.
