CHOPS audio and particles

Hello there;

I'm working on an effect in which I would like particles to ‘emit’ a sound at birth, and then I would like that sound to fade out (lower in volume) as they die. The lifespan of each particle varies. I've worked out how to use the Trigger chop to copy a sound clip to a particle at the moment its age is greater than zero (so, “birth”), but I can't quite work out an elegant way to fade the audio out over the particles' life. I can easily create a “1 - ageNormalized” attribute to drive a ramp that's meant to signify volume, but this ramp snaps back to 1 in CHOPS the moment the particle dies. If I try to use a second trigger chop to create a gate for my volume ramp (as in the attached image), I still end up with a nonzero tail on the last frame of the particle's life.

I'm not particularly fluent in CHOPS, so I'm sure there's something I'm misunderstanding here, but might anyone be able to offer me some help?
