Houdini Graphics Card Issue

Hey, guys!
My laptop's graphics card recently broke so I am currently only running on the Intel integrated graphics card. Most of the stuff still works.
However, Houdini does not want to open anymore - after the start screen it just freezes. Now, I am no tech expert but I am guessing that Houdini requires the graphic card to launch the interface and since my graphic card is no more, it can not open.
My question is, is there a way to tell Houdini to only use the integrated Intel graphics card? Will it even work using only that one?
I am planning to get a new laptop soon but I would like to wrap some work up before that happens.

Thank you!

Do you know which Intel CPU you're using? Some of the earlier iGPUs don't work at all with Houdini, but the ones on Haswell and up (i 4000 series) work well.

This is the CPU that I am currently using.

Thank you for the reply!

You can try running hgpuinfo in the command shell. It'll tell you if the GPU is capable of running Houdini (in requires GL3.3, and prefers GL4.0, which the GPU should be capable of with recent drivers). Is there another GPU in the laptop, like an mobile AMD or Nvidia? If so, I think you can go into the driver settings and instruct it to use the discrete GPU for Houdini (each driver settings is different, but it should be in Power or Applications, something like that).

If not, maybe try updating the Intel driver for the GPU. Unfortunately it's one of the more difficult graphics drivers to update as Intel's driver section isn't as streamlined as AMD's and Nvidia's. But with a bit of searching you should be able to get the correct driver and try it out.

Good Luck!

I will try that!
Thank you very much!

I think there is no problem with the integrated graphics card, it works great. For Houdini, it needs an OpenGL 3 compliant graphics card and a driver that provides OpenGL 3.3 support.

OpenGL 3.3 support.
Thank you for the response!
The card has OpenGl version 4.0. As far as the driver goes, I updated it recently. I am not sure if it meets the openGl requirements but I will check.
