Not entirely surprising but i assumed that all those nodes that start with “GAS” might have something to do with gas in a fluid sense which informs what i think they might be used for…. Am i right? or does it stand for something entirely different? General attribute solver? something like that?

Yup, they're all gas microsolvers, which make up a pyro solver when you add them together. In fact, many of them are found under the hood in the Pyrosolver if you dive inside. You can use them to replace the controls in the Pyrosolver, e.g., dissipation with GasDissipate, for greater control over your pyro sims.
