Is anyone running macOS Mojave having problems with the H18 interface being laggy? I have to click things a few times before it would respond.

Me too. Running 18.0.287 on Catalina on a MacBook Pro. For example have to click twice outside the TAB menu to dismiss it. Dialogue windows don't go away after clicking Ok only once. It's like my trackpad is not registering correctly.
No such problem on Windows.

Yes, same here. At some point SideFX should really sort out all these interface problems.

Hey not too sure if this will help but try adding the environment variable - HOUDINI_EXTERNAL_HELP_BROWSER
In your .env file. I’ve found it to be way faster than the inbuilt one.

Unfortunately I've noticed similar issues with the H18 UI being much less responsive than H17.5. I'm testing on High Sierra and Catalina. I've had issues where the time line getting locked into the drag state, when there is no mouse button down. I've had the viewport locked in tumble mode as well. It feels like Houdini is thinking about something and it misses a ‘mouse up event’. It's really common when using the new physics move in solaris.

Hi ho! If you're having issues on a specific platform, please let us know about it in a bug and give us the hardware specs, OS version, and graphics card info. Thanks!

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the reminder about the bug reporting system. It does work really well, I reported a few but I wasn't quick enough, so the fixes didn't make it into the gold master unfortunately.

Yeah, noticed this within 5 seconds of opening R18, viewport and UI feels really spongy and weird. Pretty horrible actually.

Specs below.

So it turns out the UI is all fine it just has issues with the touchpad in my specific case. Switching to a regular mouse reveals a fully functional and responsive UI. Hopefully this gets addressed in the next build but according to my communication with support, touchpad is not something that Houdini is supposed to support anyway.

Yeah to me too response from support was that Houdini requires a three button mouse. Ok, but I think this is a bit dodging the issue. I just want left click to register properly (well left click *kind of* works alright when doing hard press but when using light tapping it's not).

It would be nice to know why left click can't work like in H 17 or in Maya, Substance or every other major app on the Mac platform.

I'm testing Houdini 18 on my Mac Book Air out of all machines, I'm running the latest Catalina and everything seems pretty responsive to me.

For example have to click twice outside the TAB menu to dismiss it. Dialogue windows don't go away after clicking Ok only once. It's like my trackpad is not registering correctly.

Not happening at all on my end. Clicking once works as advertised.

Lastly, while this is not the perfect solution, for those operating Houdini on a 2-button mouse, they can at least regain the PAN movement with the LMB in the viewport by adding: HOUDINI_MMB_PAN = 0 in the .env file:
