Hi all
i'm curious to try my gtx1070 with flip fluids, but even though it's selected in the miscellaneous settings and i enabled opencl in the solver, the gpu doesn't seem to kick in at all. I used “hgpuinfo -c” also which doesn't show anything wrong on my video card.
Nvidia drivers 432.00.
Is there another way to enable it?

No, OpenCL only works on limited resolutions. Most vRAM is not large enough to hold a decent simulation. You may have set your FLIP resolution too “high” with a low particle separation. When this happens Houdini politely degrades to CPU calculations, instead of GPU calculations. This make OpenCL more of a “toy” to play with, rather than a production acceleration tool.

How are you monitoring your GPU usage?
Using Houdini Indie 20.0
Ubuntu 64GB Ryzen 16 core.
nVidia 3050RTX 8BG RAM.

that's exactly what i thought, and yes, i was just curious to try it.
I just wasn't sure of how it works.

I used task manager and hardware monitor as i don't have anything more specific at the moment, but was just to see if the video card would do anything.

thanks!

I have 2x3090 and OpenCL on fluids still feels like it makes it worse than if it's on. The only time I see a benefit of it is in the pyrosolver and axiomsolver (duh!). Feels like it needs a rehaul!
