Unreal crashes and corrupts level

So I'm learning Unreal, and I am experienced with Houdini. I'm using houdini engine to generate alot of procedural stuff inside Unreal. It works pretty good, except i've lost all my work not 3 times in a row due to crashes. Now everyprogram crashes from time to time, but Unreal seams to not only crash, but also make the scene unusable after that. It's very strange because I save everything normally with no issues, and if I close and reopen it works fine. But when there is a crash due to something ( for example once I was scattering objects and forgot to reduce the number of scattered objects beforehand and that caused the memory to run out), then the file getts corrupted.
Is this something to do with Unreal itself, or is it the houdini engine that's causing this
