It's great (as Tim's stuff always is!) but for some reason I'm stuck at about the 12 minute mark on this video:
https://vimeo.com/186278009 [vimeo.com]

When I add the transformpieces node... nothing happens!

I see this is an older video and I'm using 18.0.597 (company doesn't want to update just yet)

Attaching my file just in case anyone wants to point out what I'm sure is a simple error/mistep.

Much appreciate any feedback!

well, I've had some luck. The geo spreadsheet shows pscale is being copied over but that attribute isn't doing anything to the pieces in the "transformpieces" node!

I tried your example file and experience the same issue.
Now I would like to know as well ehehe

Also, it's interesting his claim of it being a faster workflow than the copy-to-points method.
I would like to do some performance comparison once we solve the issue.

Glad it's not just me! I've tried it on my personal machine with my Indie seat using 18.5 and still no luck!

Still no luck!

Essentially, here's what I'm trying to do...

1. Use a voronoi fracture node to... well fracture geometry.
2. Assemble node to pack the pieces.
3. Create another piece of geo with a pscale of "0"
4. Attribute Transfer to shift pscale from 1 to 0 based on distance
5. Transform pieces node to actually transform the packed pieces.

Am I completely off base here?! Is there a better way?

I think its a bug, can anyone else confirm?

If I go a slightly more manual approach where I create a matrix attribute, then transform by that attribute, it works. If you look under the hood the transform pieces node does the same thing, but something in there is breaking.

transform pieces was updated to be able to use packed transform
so since you are feeding in packed fragments for your transform and rest points it will use packedfulltransform intrinsic to compute the difference rather than instancing attributes

you can append Extract All Points to keep just points for those inputs and then it will use instancing attributes like pscale, etc...

transforming is generally faster than merging geos + transforming which is what copy to points has to do every time to create the final transforming geo
so if you can create geo once and then just transform it's always gonna be faster
