Issues with H19 guide groom

Howdy all, I think I've raised one of these issues before, but I wanted to check back and see if I'm missing something in terms of understanding the new H19 groom workflow.

1) It seems like every time you want to turn mirroring on or off you have to create an entirely new guide groom and also delete the __mirror__ attribute from the guides. This is very cumbersome! On top of that, if you start with a new guide groom, unmirrored, then turning on mirroring doubles the guides. Is there a better way?

2) If you want to transform your skin geo, or import an updated model, then you need to do a guide transfer. Also cumbersome and not how the old guide groom worked. There you just clicked a button and it recalculated the groom for the updated geo. The icing on the cake is that if you do the guide transfer then something magically propagates upstream and deletes the original guides.

Regarding 1:
you have to use the "Groups" section, below "Mirroring", by adding guides that you want mirrored - 'Add selection to Group' and 'Add New Curves to Group'
The workflow is a bit convoluted and it's been a while since I've used it so I don't remember it exactly. It definitely could use some extra simplicity/clarity.

About 2, I recently got into trouble, after I modified a mesh in Zbrush (no topology changes) and overwritten it when exporting (no undo stack available as I closed the program), thus denying myself the possibility of using the blendshapes trick or guidetransfer. BTW, you can use a stash SOP after the guidegroom until the disappearing guides bug is fixed.

I ended up re-projecting the roots of the guides with a ray sop, which then required some guide re-combing and resampling. It worked for me in the end as the model didn't suffer major changes, but it's far from being an optimal solution.
I'm also interested to know whether there's a better way when you have to update the model's proportions (or even topology) as it often happens and don't have access to the previous unaltered version.

Thanks for the tips, appreciate it! That re-projecting workaround is mighty convoluted, definitely needs to be a better way.

By the way, I tried making my own HDA to augment the guide groom functionality, but that seems to be difficult/impossible since it depends on so much Python code. It might be doable with more know-how, but that's above my pay grade.
