Hi,
I'm only 1 day into discovering Houdini, so I'm a complete newbie with hardly any 3D experience, I work with After Effects and thought I'd give this amazing app a look. So please forgive my inexperience and probably simple question…
Anyway I've been going through a couple of tutorials on the Apprentice Blog page and got a bit stuck with Mantra…
I followed the Polygon Modeling with Subdivision Rendering tutorial
http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=751&Itemid=241 [sidefx.com] to get acquainted to the interface, after modelling a rudimentary spoon and following the instructors actions..I noticed that my final rendered image looked nothing at all like the one in the instructional Quicktime.
The Instructors render had a chrome effect that looked shiny and reflective as well as surface inperfections, whereas mine looked like it had been painted with stealth matte paint!
I followed the Instructions like a cook book recipe but my results were vastly different, so my questions are…
Does the Apprentice version of Houdini have some Render settings left out or do I need to set up the Mantra options to give me a higher gloss finish?
Any help or direction would be gratefully received
Many thanks in advance
Rob

Hey - that's the first bug I logged when I started here.
It's an old video and hasn't been updated since they changed the shader they used for the spoon in the video.
i.e. Don't worry about it. You haven't done anything wrong. The video is just out of date.
The shader is reflecting the blackness of your black background.
