hi
i downloaded houdini 10 apprentice and whenever i start it, it says i need to turn off “opengl”…so anyway, i ignored this because i dont know how to turn it off and when im trying to simulate a fireball in the program, it says there was a memory allocation so i cant simulate anything…i would really appreciate any help because i was really looking forwards to getting into houdini because it looks awesome
also, if anyone is going to post a reply, can you only post a reply if you have an answer…i dont want to know if you have the same problem!
thanks

the geforce 8600gt is a good consumer card, not great but it should be OK…
if you google “geforce 8600gt opengl”
you'll see a few references to problems but I think having the latest drivers properly installed should fix them
as for the memory issues…
I was referring to RAM, not hard drive space…
to check on Windows >
right click on My Computer
click on Properties
Under the General tab, you will find how much RAM the computer has
note however that it's pretty easy to run out of ram when doing simulations
maybe post your file and we can see what's going on…

it would be nice if SideFX could keep Houdini Apprentice v9 available for download because v10 requires the latest graphics drivers that only run on recent graphics cards. I was lucky in that I have an old Digital Tutors CD that includes Houdini Aprentice 9 on it, and it runs perfectly on my netbooks where as v10 will just gag my netbooks with error messages.
