Hi all,

I am considering buying a laptop for use with Houdini and Maya and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations as to which graphics cards play well with Houdini and Maya. I know the system requirements for both state that workstation level cards are required but the NVidia Quadro and ATI FirePRO/GL cards might be outside of my budget.

Any assistance and suggestions would be much appreciated.

Cheers

I have a Dell Latitude E6400; it has a Quadro NVS 160, and runs both Houdini and Maya great. I've used both applications in Windows 7, and just Houdini in linux (ubuntu).
I'm o.d.d.

Thanks Goldleaf,

Does anyone succesfully use a card that is not in the NVidia Quadro or ATI FirePRO/GL ranges for Houdini and Maya.

Thanks Rob. Whats the spec on that card. Is it the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT?

Anyone else with positive GeForce experiences or card recommendations for Windows?

I got a HP Compaq 8710p with nvidia Quadro NVS 320 M.

I used H9 to H10 with zero display problems.
(WinXP 32Bit, Linux Ubuntu 64 Bit, Win7 64Bit)

Performance wise it is enough for my needs.

Hi,

MSI GX620 with GeFroce 9600M. Houdini runs fine both on Win7 x64 and on Ubuntu 9.x.

Small HP laptop for teaching while I'm traveling, although I also use it to create training videos.
AMD athlonx2 64bit, 4gb ram. Nvidia 7150M Go graphics card, works just fine. Ubuntu 9.04

I also have an Asrock 330 mini computer. Dual Atom chips, 4gb ram and an embedded Nvidia Ion chip. Works well also.

MacBookPro best choice(or any macbook 64 bit),
If you have money for that, best choise you've ever made.
Reliable, Unix-Like, run like a charm. If not happy can can switch to linux, or win7 (but why choose worst?).
