NECRO BUMP!
Just experienced this issue. I do have an external monitor, but that is also 1080P. So what I did was instead of extending the monitors left to right, I extended my second monitor BELOW my primary monitor! So now the import button appears at the top of my second monitor.

Hey all!
Joining in the fun
I'm on 10.10.2, H14.0.201.13 - crashing if I select the transform tool whilst selecting a point/poly.
I got a workaround for the moment, instead of hitting T or R after selecting a point/poly, lay down an edit sop in the viewport. For some reason, doing that works fine. Can't wait to get this crashing properly resolved.
Apart from random crashing (delete a node - crash. File -> new - crash. ), the viewport is working amazingly well, still getting to grips with the new loop selection tools. Subdivs in viewport is awesome too.
Unfortunately, can't download a newer daily build as my internet bandwidth is almost up :-/
Hope this helps someone!

Houdini Learning Materials » How do I scale smoke down

Hello!
I had a quick look and it does seem to be doing what you want, but the radius for the “create_density_volume” may be rather large? It has a sample distance of 3.959…. you might also want to preview the setup with a Volume Visualization sop, and Volume Reduce sop (to find out the min/max density).
Interestingly, you are sourcing the fluid from itself, I didn't think a recursive loop like that'd work. I would suggest splitting the emission portion separately from the smoke sim would make it easier to narrow down your effect. While you do have mutual on the merge, the feedback scale on the pyro is at 0, so probably no two way interaction will occur.
Pop feeback with fluid is interesting, will have to try it tomorrow!

I'm not sure really, good question for support, but however, if you create a string input, you can put $JOB or $TEMP $HIP etc in that field, and hence you can bring it into VEX.

Work: 8 core, 24gb dell of which i have no idea. Linux, of course.
Home: Core2 Duo 1.83Ghz, nVidia go 8000 series, 2gb ram. Ubuntu.
NB: Please oh please get a desktop if you do not need the portability - and get a proper lcd to go along with it. I've been fighting issues with color on my laptop and only just realized my screen is one of the crap tn 6bpp panels

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » very slow RBD solving

First off, laser scan was off and invert sign was on. With laser scan on and invertsign off it sims slightly faster.
In the case of the RBD fractured the sdf generation is applied on a group basis, so there is no need to turn off the laser scan - I assume it was turned off because of the gaps in between dominos. Also, invert sign - I rarely touch this guy.
In any case, RBD Fractured should work, but, i would say RBD Point object would work better. Check the speed difference as well as the improvements to the SDF collision field.
With regards to the dominos intersecting, I've set the surface representation to edges - using edges to collide is slower, but with low res geo it does help the sim become more accurate.

How about applying a secondary set of UVs to your entire wall.
Next, imaging a simple 2D wipe over this uv co-ord system.
Now use this 2d wipe as the blend between clean/rust.

See if this helps? I'm using the point expression to get the color from a COPs image map. I'd like to know if there's a way to use a low res poly to emit a high res image too!

Technical Discussion » HDK: Mantra Procedurals

Hello all!
I'm a total HDK newb here, so please bear with me! I've got Apprentice installed, and fooling around with the HDK on Ubuntu 7.10. Got the sop and pop types from the HDK toolkit to work, but I have a few questions on the Mantra Procedurals.
I compiled them, but do they need to be run from the Generic Geometry SHOP or can they have an interface like the Fur Procedural, Sprite procedural etc?
Also, I was trying the DemoVolumeSphere procedural, mantra just errors out, even with V5, nothing is displayed in the terminal…. any ideas? Mantra -V8 lists it as installed :?:
Thanks!

Hi!
Could you see if this works for you? I'm using the maths chop to combine a Geometry Chop and a Noise CHOP.
The noise chop has a rand($C) in the seed parameter, so the 3 channels have different seed values.
HTHs!

Alvin
