I think Menu entries and separators can be added but im not sure about fonts.Colors can be changed, although I am not sure if the colors are global or menu specific.

Eitehr way, you have to search through the various python and xml files for the correct menu parts and alter them…

If the entire H gui was exposed in QT .ui files we could fully tweak it to our liking.
Every native panel interface should have its corresponding xml file with EVERY QT API SETTING EXPOSED.

Autodesk did a great job with maya, putting every native panel into its own qt/xml file.
(Everything is tweakable, you can even get rid of crap buttons on the parameter panel.)

Such tweaking is not possible in H, you can change some colors and thats it.
The only app with worse GUI customisation is probably Blender, and we all know how much Blender is loved for its gui…

Separators and rolled up panels are so big, is there a way to tweak the height/width?

#1 App GUI panels should be fully exposed in unlocked qt .UI files so we can change everything.

I spent 2 days digging in the deepest darkest corners of various .py and other code files trying to find any entry to set Pane splitter width…no luck.

I know the pro TD's arent really bothered by these kinds of things, so its really unfortunate.

I would like to know where the python code/stylesheet/.qss etc for the native networkEditor>QTreeView(Operator List) are located.
For purposes of setting various QT settings, e.g

TreeView.setSelectionMode(multi selection is sorely missing)
TreeView.customContextMenuRequested.connect()
TreeView.setIconSize()
QTreeView::branch:has-siblings:!adjoins-item {border-image: none;}
* And much more!

LEFT: Custom QTreeView, much cleaner for my eyes.
RIGHT: Native houdini treeview, would like to tweak, thanks!

Houdini is basically 3dsmax with a modifier stack on steroids, think of your nodenetwork as a modifier stack that can branch off endlessly and never has to be collapsed.

Atleast thats how I approached it in the beginning.

And… you will get the best developers in the industry covering your back.

UI is laggy due to pyQT crap, it happens to every app that gets customization through python.

Never been a fan of this approach, imo the UI should be hardcoded but now we have the entire node editor in python…GG

Are there any concerns that ui python might slow things down? Kind of like with maya, considering 16 is already quite sluggish, compared to 15.

Maybe Bundles or Groups of your desired nodes can help in faster access?
Or the new 16 quickbookmarks?

NVIDIA crippled their 10series to force people into quadro range for heavy computing.
They expressed negative opinion about consumer grade gpus being able to run pro computation for a long time so it was all coming.

Redshift devs discovered this forced downclock at the release of 10series and several drivers and months later its still unresolved so…

Add to this the fact that SLI is far more limited than previous generations and the 1080 having less cuda cores than a 780 makes it all more than a coincidence - There is a pattern of purposeful downgrading.

As CUDA is proprietary NVIDIA hardware only, they can force downclocks all they want, they risk no rival outperforming them on CUDA.

OpenCL however is hardware agnostic so theres healthy competition… which obviously results in manufacturers keeping their stuff competitive to avoid risk of being outperformed.

After a day or so with testing I can safely say…16 is total win!

* Best boolean algorithms I have ever seen…the resulting geo is looking better than siemens NX, which is a dedicated boolean solid modeller.

* Best hair solution of any dcc app now

These alone would have made it a solid release but theres so much more

/Hats off for SideFX!

Do NOT buy anything until AMD's Ryzen is out…

There are very strong indications that the architecture performs like Intels broadwell but at half the price.

With that said, I would personally invest the bulk of the budget into multiple GPU's instead and wait for arnoldGPU or just buy REDSHIFT
