I know the muscle system is in beta. But still can't find any examples for it. If there aren't any, at least is there anywhere I can find some muscles and skeleton to try to learn it from the docs?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Houdini Indie and Apprentice » No "lockdown" sale?

oh, I agree that it´s quite cheap. Apprentice does not allow to export to real time engines (understandably) so it´s not useable to practice that stuff.
This being said, it´s not always “on sale”. On sale implies cheaper than usual, and it´s not cheaper than before lockdown. If anything it has gone slightly up in the last couple of years.
I´m not saying it´s not worth it at all. Surely you can infer from the date that I joined this forum that I understand quite well the product.
I just think SideFX has missed a beat by not throwing a helping hand.

Hi,
I understand the Indie version for Houdini is already quite a good deal.
I was thinking though, it seems like a missed opportunity for SideFX not to do any kind of sale during this difficult times. It´s a very “SideFX” thing to do to help artists when things go south. At least the SideFX I´ve grown to know during all these years.

It's this page - it has links to each certified school;
http://beta.sidefx.com/education/schools/ [beta.sidefx.com]
ah, that´s very nice indeed 8)

It looks very nice, indeed!
I hope it will still keep some of the current´s site info regarding Schools? It took us a lot of work to become a certified school! 8)
Check out the Education section in the footer - Certified schools are featured in the schools section
I trust you Robert, but I don´t see an education section in the footer. I can see it in your screengrab but not in my browser. It goes from Product to Support without an Education menu.
Furthermore, I also think down there, it will become quite buried for people to find if the main page gets a lot of news. I think it could go on the top menu just like in the current site…
…but that´s just me and my two euro cents

Wonderful job! May I ask what was the production time for it, and how many people were involved?

It´s coming very nicely but I think you tightened a bit too much the mesh, wouldn´t you agree?
I mean you thinned it so much that at some points it flickers and overall it gives that “negative peak” look…at least to my eyes.
Otherwise it´s very nice

As a Houdini instructor myself, I recommend that whatever topic you get into to learn about, be sure that learning is always project-based.
If you´re not forcing yourself to get a good render at the end of each project, not only you will never be sure on how strong your grasp of the software is, but you won´t have anything to put into your demo reel.
Understand that for the rest of the world, you are as good as your demo reel.
I see many people around both message boards (this one and odforce) playing with Pyro, Flips, etc…and it´s all cool, but you can tell from their questions that most of the time they haven´t yet grasped the basics of Houdini, specially SOPs. This is WRONG and doesn´t build the correct foundation.
Even though I work at a place where we teach VFX, I´m not going to affirm you necessarily need to go somewhere to learn, but if you learn on your own, you still need a STRUCTURED learning. Mark your own intermediate goals, make those goals project-based, and build a demo reel around those.
After that…go get a job

No, it´s not easy. Specially if you want to convey real info, and not just filling time.
I´m long-winded, so I make recordings three or four times longer and then I have to edit all my blahblahs and my yaddayaddas.
It does take time and contrarily to what many people thinks you probably deal with LESS topics for an standard length video compared to a PDF.

And of course, it was just a case of me being a moron and probably getting older.
As support just replied, my expression was based on $F, which of course, doesn´t calculate sub-frame steps. As soon as I change it to $FF it works properly….
…*shrugh*

Hi there.
If I crank up the Geo or Xform Time Samples above 2, Motion blur doesn´t render anymore…can anybody confirm this before I send a bug report? (or explain why, and then I don´t have to send a bug report)
File attached in case anybody wants to test.
PS: BTW I´m using H.14.0.291 Win64

Wow, I didn´t know about this technique…it´s pretty interesting.
Can anyone explain a bit more on how exactly to “extract” the lights from the HDRIs…and how to place them in the scene?
I think I get the general idea, but I don´t get the specifics

It creates a really clean geometry. Kudos on that!
I wonder how you came with this method, of creating just an arc with half a hole, then mirroring it, and finally creating the whole thing…
…I mean..how does your brain work? it´s weird

whoa, I didn´t know about the “instances” method! What a great timesaver! I was looping through all nodes and comparing to get nodes of the same type.

I think the solid object accepts per point attributes for both shape and volume stiffness. Just check the help card for the proper syntax. In that case, it should be pretty staightforward to change those.
