Thanks

Technical Discussion » Texture Mapping

Hello,
I have modelled and animated a book that opens using polygons, i then have subdivided the geometry and textured it. Now the tricky bit, is there any way i can fix the texture maps to the subdivided model. My gut reaction is no i can't, and that i will have to texture before i animate it. Which means that the subdivide will screw up my textures, and animating after the subdivide is far to problematic.
Would appreciate any help
Cheers

Thanks for the replies.
I tried the super material but it didn't seem to want to refract, and i couldn't find any glass shaders on odforce.
Maybe i will have to build a shader in vex.
Cheers

I was wondering if anyone could explain to me why i can not get reflections off a surface behind glass, eg. a pair of metal scissors in a glass jar. I am using the standard vex shaders.

Does the refraction Index parameter in the Vex Lens Shader relate to real world refractons ie. glass (common) RI = 1.52

Technical Discussion » Transforms crashing 6

Whilst using either Transform, Soft Transform or Edit I will regularly get a Houdini Error that crashes Houdini 6. It happens whilst right clicking after selecting points but I can never tell when it will happen, except when I try to switch my selection type from replace to add or subtract, then it will always happen. After right clicking to finalise the selection the points will deselct and the sop network will not reconnect up and Houdini will freeze, eventually coming up with the error message.
Also, whilst selecting points I will do something (I don't know what yet) that causes the mouse buttons to no longer function properly. I can select points but right clicking deselects them, and holding space to tumble my view no longer works, it just draws a marquee selection when I click and drag. Hitting undo gets me back to before I restarted modelling but the mouse never comes right, no matter what sop I work on. I have to restart Houdini to carry on working. This is slowing down our production flow too much. Anyone have any idea if this is a bug that is being repaired in 6.1 or are we alone in this?
We are running Windows 2000 on twin 1GB Intel CPUs with GeForce3 cards.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I've found in Windows 2000 using the Interactive version of Mplay is extremely dodgy. I have very few problems using normal Mplay (md instead of ip). Also make sure you dissconnect before you shut Mplay down.
If you have been doing a few renders over time and Houdini hangs check task manager and see if imdisplay is running (Open GL renders). If it is and your render has finished shut imdisplay down with the end process command and Houdini should start up again. Sometimes there will be multiple imdisplays or mantras in task manager so it always pays to check regularly to see stuff is shutting down properly. This has solved most of our problems with Mplay, so hopefully it will help you out.

Technical Discussion » Jump in file size

Sometimes our hip files jump up in size, roughly 8-10mb. This seems to happen randomly and once started can reach up to and above 90 mb on consecutive saves. The project should be around 7mb. We are running 5.5.230 on Win2000 pro. Has anyone had this happen to them and are there any possible ways of correcting this.
Currently we are copying out all the networks in to a new project. Although this doesn't safeguard it from happening again.
Any advice?
