Launcher crashes when selecting "Install Directory" to change path for installing a new version of Houdini application. Is this happening with anyone else? I was just trying to install 19.5.493 using Launcher. I'll have to install manual method.

Apologies in advance for what may be a dumb question on my part.
Houdini 18.5 and below has daily build installers for either Python 2 (py2) or Python 3 (py3).
Houdini 19 download installers doesn't seem to differentiate. Does it matter?
The reason for the question is Renderman 24.2 has Houdini 19 support and offers an RM download for either py2 or py3.

Unbeknownst to me while updating Houdini to .408 today my Indie license had expired today as well. Here I am trying to figure out why when launching Houdini it was asking for license key. I found out it has expired only after logging into my SideFX account and looking at purchase history/invoice.
Why no indication of Expired License in software pop-up? Or how about an email a few days in advance to let user know of upcoming end of license date? Other software companies do the latter.

I can vouch for ODTools. I discovered them via the LightWave forums because I have the LW tools wishlisted (pandemic sale perhaps?) and bought ODTools for Houdini because I’ve grown to embrace Houdini now over other software.

It’s all fine now. Renderers all work in harmony. According to the PRM forum the RIS tab is meant to be removed one day. It’s not used any more.

Thanks to this video [www.youtube.com] I learned a lot about the env file. In a nutshell your env file should only contain one Houdini_Path variable along with a single “&”.
I followed the video to append all my plugins to the Houdini_Path and after some trial & error everything works like a charm.
I didn’t realize to use 3rd party plugins you need to know a bit of coding when it comes to Houdini.

If by “Educational” you mean Apprentice then it does not support 3rd party Renderers.
According to the comparison chart [www.sidefx.com] I am not “wrong”.
However I did later notice there is indeed a separate ‘Education’ version of Houdini that supports 3rd party renderers.

I do not have a specific answer to resolving the issue although mine did go away while experimenting with the env file. There are other suggestions too in different threads I came across (do a search) but did not work for me while it did for other users. Unfortunately I have not seen anything official from Houdini/SideFX staff.
One thing I do notice in the warnings you have is there are different backslashes used throughout the paths like I had. Are you on Windows, MAC, or Linux? I am on Windows 10.

So far so good running it in b416. There were no errors or warnings when installing RenderMan. There were also no errors during Houdini launch and I am able to place operators without problem. I have not rendered anything yet but that's next step as I get familiar with it. I've been busy demo'ing Arnold & V-Ray for the last few weeks.

Thanks to a video on the youtube [www.youtube.com] I was able to get the houdini.env working as I think it should. All plugins show up and none of those Console errors.

I purchased RenderMan Pro the other day and got around to installing it over a period of last night. Boy what a struggle to get the Houdini.env sorted out and working!
I also had a trial of Arnold loaded and ended up having to remove it so the RM main menu tab would appear. If it wasn't removed the Arnold menu would show but not RM. It's likely the way the env file was set up (I'm a noob) so will either research it more or look into using json package files instead which will also be a new thing for me. I was only using Arnold for some specific tutorials anyway.
I do have one question for those who have RM 23 installed:
When I add the Shelf tool I see a RenderMan and a RenderMan RIS option. Adding RM shows the toolbar with all the icons. Adding RIS shows nothing. Is that correct? Is RIS not used for RM 23.2? I can't find anything in the current RM wiki docs related to this RM RIS.
Like I mentioned, I'm a new to this so TIA.

I was experimenting with the env file after adding a trial of Arnold and purchasing RenderMan and of course having to add the plugin info to env. loads of trouble started to occur. Seeking guidance on the internet I found one suggestion of having only one “&” at the end of the last “HOUDINI_PATH” variable. That fixed all the Console messages and the PDG errors went away! The plugins are all still accessible with one caveat (RenderMan and Arnold coexisting) but that's for another thread.

I've been spending time demo'ing various 3rd party renderers of late to compliment Houdini. Came across that Pixar are offering Renderman up with 25% discount until April 30. Worth a buy?

Just updated to 18.0.416 and these annoying messages still come up. I checked the houdini.env file it seems okay. I also found some other suggestions to the same error in other threads but they did not work or apply.
