Hi,
I have a haircut that is quite precise, so i am using a guide groom on the hair generate to cut a straight line on my characters fringe. How do i have this work with the animated result?
Thanks

A different issue has arisen, i can't get Target Stiffness and Target Damping to work. Raising the value to 100 for both has zero effect on the outcome of the hair simulation. I have made sure i have the correct simulation spatial scale.
Thanks
Thanks

Never mind, solved it. The surface i was trying to collide with is an alembic surface, so i had to convert it to a polygon surface before it would collide, following the instructions from Jeff https://www.sidefx.com/forum/topic/32667/#post-153546 [www.sidefx.com]

Hi guys,
I have a hair sim that im trying to do, i've got everything setup and working with the exception of collisions with other objects. The hair will collide with the skin surface, but im trying to add collisions with his clothing. I've created an external dopnet and merged in a static object (his coat). I've verified that the collision guide is accurate but i can't get it to collide with the hair wire object. Collide Independent and Collide Codependent are enabled on the wire object.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated
Thanks

Hi,
Is there the ability to freeze guide curves in Houdini? I've styled part of the hair and i'd like to freeze it to work on the rest, is there a freeze brush/selection?
Thanks

Hi,
Trying to learn houdini and following tutorials shows how to use the old point node, but how do i use the new point node?
I would like to create Cd with expression (1-$PT/$NPT) in the red channel, however from my understanding that is hscript, and the new node is vex. Trying to use (1-@ptnum/@numpt) doesnt work, it just gives me a constant red value (i am changing the vexpression to value)

Hello,
Im faking this result slightly, having the pot mostly full of coins to begin with (just a thin layer of coins ontop) However i can't seem to set my initial state.
I write a single .sim file at frame 60, disable the file node and then on the AutoDopNetwork put the sim file as the initial state, however everything gets greyed out and there is no simulation, the RBD also stay in their original frame 1 position.
Is there something i am missing?
Thanks

Hello,
Im trying to create a load of coins falling into a money pot and overflowing, but i dont know weather i should use rigid bodies or particles, i created an emmiter and instanced the geometry onto the particles, and set collisions with the pot, but they only collide with the ‘points’ not the instanced shape, can i change the collision hull? how do i get them to self-collide
or should i duplicate hundreds of coins and then set them to active rigid bodies?
Thanks

the simulation finished finally (think because the collision geometry needs to have a high resolution it takes a while.
trying to get good surface settings, i find metaballs look better.

wow i love Houdini. I figured that was how water would react. Got a bottle filled it with water and shook it a bit, and the water did go all the way to the top of the bottle, not quite as far but i cant replicate what im doing inside of houdini. I got the simulation just how i wanted and then decreased the particle seperation to 0.1 and the simulation is almost completely different. I have tried meshing the surface on a previous simulation where i had no surface tension and friction was at full for both (looked more like goo) and found that killing lone particles helped the final look, i also forgot to put a collision distance in, so i had to use the collision object with an isooffset to cut away the fluid, but then i just got lines on the fluid surface that i couldnt get rid of so im trying again.
Simulating 0.1 particle seperation at the moment, been running for 5 hours and its done about 20%

Hey, can someone help with the fluid please. I cant seem to get the fluid to act correctly. With the exception of the initial bounce everything else i think is fine, i have both the fluid and the containers bounce set to 0.1 and friction on both at 0.5, the fluid has a surface tension of 30, and a viscosity of 0.002
Thanks

i don't know about 3rd party but i think its doubtful. Houdini uses tightly integrated physics engines so that fluids can interact with rigid bodies, particles, fur etc. PhysX is primarily a game engine tool so your probably better off with 3DSMax. There was a maya plugin but that got axed. Didn't know XSI did the same thing though.
Also a side note does anyone know if Houdini will be able to utalize larrabee or cuda for its calculations?

moving to the latest daily build seems to have helped a little, i also formatted for windows 7 RTM, updated graphics cards and tweaked the fluid seperation and i get better performance. Having a little trouble with the fluids bounce. I have both the container and the fluid to have almost no bounce and yet the fluid bounces like i hit it with a baseball bat. Is there anything i can do to speed up the guide geometry? could i disable the specular on the balls or change them to something else? i don't have many in the scene but it still feels sluggish with them on.

im using 10.0.249.5, or should i use the production build 10.0.295?
I have to re-format my computer anyway as im using windows 7 rc1, and i want to put the RTM on, so im going to dual boot with archlinux. How do i transfer my license from windows to linux?

I get slow performance during fluid simulations. In comparison to digital tutors videos aswell as the houdini fluid tutorials performance is slower. I have a Q9550, 8GB ram, 512mb 9800gtx+, Windows 7 64, latest drivers and everything upto date. Houdini doesnt seem to use more than 2gb of ram. I also can't display fluid guide geometry even on really small simulations as the whole thing chugs. I have everything cached to disk but even playback of 300 frames is slow.

Hey,
Im having some performance problems with my system. Is it possible to switch over to linux? How would i do this and transfer my license. Same machine, just ubuntu instead of windows.
Thanks

Hey,
how would i go about creating slow motion fluids? such as slow motion water drop or breaking glass.
Thanks

He means seleting the edges that flow across the face of a polygon, rather than down the edge of one. And afaik Ive never seen a ring select option.
Oh and nice to see you moving from Maya to Houdini pottsy!
Hey,
You on the 3DPalace forums?
Damn, i like the ring select feature
I'm not ‘moving’ as such, when i was FMX framestore said i would need to know both maya and houdini if i wanted to do dynamics and effects, so im learning Houdini. I still prefer maya for modelling but so far for everything else Houdini Rocks!

i can't find ring selection, i can find loop and various loop related shortcuts, but no ring selection.
