You’re right! I forgot if Launcher crashes to reinstall it.
Okay, I’ll try again when I get home.
Thanks.

Can anyone confirm whether or not the Houdini Launcher and Houdini are supposed to be working on Sequoia 15?
Houdini Indie and Apprentice » Redshift 22GB of VRAM just to render these few splines? Please help!

RS performance is not measured by how much VRAM it uses.
If your system is validated within comparable performance range (by running RS benchmark), then there is some other factor that is affecting performance.
There are multiple tools to diagnose where time was spent for rendering a frame. The RS Logs is the best place to acquire that information.
If scene extraction (of your splines) is what’s taking up time, there are several ways to remove that cost, one of those is RS Proxy.
I would add here, that this (SideFX) forum is not monitored by RS Support - I would suggest making a post on the Maxon forums, where the dedicated RS Houdini plugin developer can assist.

I will share a working file for Redshift ASAP!

Okay thanks, I’m gonna try this out and see if it really works.
Curious to Clone some things with Karma in the Cloud and what price point that comes out too per-frame.

Houdini Lounge » A Comprehensive Feature List Between Karma XPU + Redshift

One thing I love about Karma is how fault tolerant XPU is : if a GPU device fails during rendering, you are almost always still guaranteed a frame will be produced by the other device(s).
Redshift has a much broader range of device support, over Karma, but I haven’t compared this particular piece of Redshift recently, to measure how tolerant it is.
I’m not talking about out of core, I’m talking about the device can no longer contribute to the frame, for whatever reason.

The BTS shows that they did it on a super low budget.
So, I think that’s why the academy gave them the nod - because of what they achieved compared to the much larger budgeted Hollywood movies.

Very well said - I freakin hate trying to do layout/materials in LOPs, not that it’s broken, it’s just different - in a non-intuitive kind of way.
I try to do as much as I can in SOPs and kinda set things up for LOPs using attributes that get automatically converted into their PrimVar counterparts.

habernir
and you compare "hybrid rendering" soo how can you compare karma XPU that was built from the ground-up for multi-devices to redshift ?
RS supports hybrid rendering, so its an appropriate feature to compare.

In light of their Oscar win for Godzilla Minis One (Animated in Maya, rendered in Redshift), Toho celebrates by releasing the Godzilla model for free:

Next RS release will have some long requested features, a few of them are huge.
One thing RS currently doesn’t have is support for Clone.
But like I said, wait until after the next RS release before you record/publish any video content, in comparison between the two.

MaterialX has an 'array append' VOP, with a blue connector (for several supported Array data types) - but I don't see anything else that can consume it in there.
'USD Prim Var Reader' VOP is available in KarmaMaterial and its equivalent 'User Data' is available in MaterialXMaterial.

If you click/select the mesh_0 Prim on the Stage to inspect it, then in the Solaris Geometry Spreadsheet pane (where the name:value pairs are listed), you can scroll down and see what PrimVars where automatically created from the SOP Import.
In that list, you'll see your 'colors' defined as:
primvars:colors
primvars:colors:indices
primvars:colors:lengths
So, the data you defined in SOPs is converted into USD data - now your materials needs to be setup to consume that USD data in a way that works with USD.
There's a specific node that reads PrimVar data in Shading - I think it's literally called "USD Prim Var Reader"?

Thanks for those details.
I'm probably gonna regret asking this but, what distinction is this new part of the USD spec. making?
From a renderer perspective, Lights cannot be "instanced" in the technical sense, and Reference already allows you to basically "copy" any USD Prim.

@robp_sidefx - what part is not supported by Karma?
Light Referencing (which in reality is just a copy of a USD Prim), has worked in Karma since Day 1 I believe.
I assume this new USD feature is something beyond that?....

You cannot Instance lights - they can be copied/duplicated by using either of the Reference type(s).
