Hi Guys,

I've been looking in the Houdini help but I can't find out how to merge all the components of an object together eg. points, unused poly's ETC.

You can do it in C4D with the optimze command. Any help would be much appreciated

Houdini Lounge » Importing Boujou track into Houdini

Hi,

I can't find much help on what to do with the Boujou tracking data once I open the .hip file Boujou exports. In C4D you make a background plane and apply the movie file into one of the texture channels and everything lines up.

Does anyone know how to work with the Boujou data in Houdini?

Thanks.

Hi Guys,

I finally managed to shatter text in Houdini! Anyway I've attached a movie file. Thanks to the guys who gave me advice on this forum

I'm still very new to Houdini but I can already see it's strengths over the other packages I've used eg. C4D & Maya.

Hi,

How come when I look at objects in smooth shaded mode the faces look all weird and patchy or blocky. I also use C4D & Maya and the same geometry looks perfect in the other apps.

Dude, tell me about it! I've had to use shatter in Maya to break my objects and then import them into Houdini.

This is exactly what I've been trying to create with Houdini (see attachment)

I haven't seen awesome text breakages with Houdini yet & I'd like to use this technique in an upcoming project.

Hi,

I've read a bit about the shatter tool and it seems as though a lot of people are having trouble with random polys sticking out of objects with the inside surfaces option turned on. SO…

If I can't break apart objects with ‘shatter’ how do I go about cutting extruded FONT ‘manually’ into solid chunks that I can smash apart?

Ok. If you shatter extruded text for example. How to you make it look like it's cleanly assembled whilst really being fractured ready to smash?

Hi,

1. I was wondering how you get depth map shadows to look good? When I use them on my shattered geometry they look horrible with chunky edges but the raytraced shadows look clean, they're just a bit too sharp sometimes.

2. Also how do you fix flickering geometry & shadows on shattered geometry? or in any case?

Thanks for the info. I agree, It's like everything I've seen Houdini do so far has impressed the SH*T out of me. But I guess they all have their weak points & I guess 3d text is Houdini's

Hi,

I new to Houdini and I'm loving it except for 1 thing. The Font Manager.

I come from C4D where 3D fonts are a walk in the park to create and work with. In Houdini you can't even arrow through the fonts & have them update on screen. I think it's the most un-intuitive thing I've ever used. Some of the True Type fonts I've installed have a weird 1 letter offset when I extrude them and others work ok???

Can anyone tell me how I can make the fonts look nicer eg. (great edges, and cap effects like fillet etc.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks for the detailed info. I import AI work paths from Photoshop into Cinema 4D all the time. Can you bring them into Houdini aswell? If so, Would that be a better way of smashing text?

A lot of the polygon geometries are not joined at the edges by default–they're only snapped together and not actually one piece. You need to add a Facet node (inside your font_object1) and turn on Consolidate… option on that node to turn the text model into one piece, then use the Shatter tool. You'll get better pre-fracture results that way.

That looks good. Is it done with actual text? Can you let me look at the .hip file?

Could someone please look at my file to see what the shatter is doing to my object. I just want it to smash onto a ground plane and break into thick chunks.

I read that post. Thanks. It still doesn't help me cut up my geo inside houdini and shatter the text. I guess it can't be done.
